Site Relaunch
Just as the mechanic’s car is the last one to be repaired, sometimes the web designer’s site is the last to be upgraded. Finally after about five months of being bumped aside, and a little procrastination, Base2 Studio v.2 is finally up.
After investigating and experimenting with several CMS platforms I decided Ellis Lab’s content management system, ExpressionEngine, would be the CMS of choice.
According to Ellis Lab:
“Say hello to the most flexible web publishing system you’ll ever meet.”
Now that the site is up and running I’m confident I chose wisely. So far I am stoked with the flexibility and speed of the system. The ExpressionEngine tags were easy to learn and their documentation is great. The control panel is well laid out too.
The site is hosted on a MediaTemple (dv) server, which is a touch pricey but the reliability and scalability is worth it in my opinion. Since migrating to MT I haven’t had any downtime that I am aware of. I switched to them around August 2006 after coming to my wits end with Alentus. I’m pretty sure Alentus is one of the worst web hosts I have ever dealt with. The down time, especially with email was ridiculous. MediaTemple has been a nice change.
The site still needs a few tweaks and minor touches here and there but for the most part I can now focus on adding the stack of completed client projects I’ve done over the last year or so.
